Dodgers Free Agent Teoscar Hernandez Being Pursued by 4 Teams: Report

Aside from the Los Angeles Dodgers, three others teams are pursuing free agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández. Although Hernández hopes to return to the Dodgers, the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Mariners have all given him something to “think about,” per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

“He flat told me ‘1,000 percent’ he wanted to return to the Dodgers,” Heyman wrote. “And who wouldn’t? But the Red Sox and his old Jays (and possibly his old Mariners) are apparently giving him something to think about. A great bat and terrific clubhouse guy who should capitalize on his huge year in LA.”

Hernández made a bet on himself last season after he signed a one-year contract with the Dodgers, but deferred some of the money. After hitting a career-high home runs, winning the Home Run Derby, and becoming a World Series champion, Hernández emerged as one of the top free agent outfielders of the winter.

Though the Dodgers and Hernández share a mutual interest in his return, the two parties have reached a point of contention in negotiations: money. Hernández is reportedly seeking a three-year deal worth between $66 million and $72 million.

Since the issue has yet to be resolved, it seems both the Dodgers and Hernández are looking elsewhere. The Dodgers are reportedly exploring right-handed hitting alternatives on the market. The list includes infielder Ha-Seong Kim of the San Diego Padres, right fielder Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs, and center fielder Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox.

Meanwhile, Hernández is considering a return to Toronto or Seattle. He’s also considering opening a new chapter in Boston. At the start of free agency, Hernández seemed the most likely of all the Los Angeles free agents to return. But at this point, the fate of Hernández remains uncertain.

Hernández was always open about his desire to return to the Dodgers after the 2024 season and it still remains true. However, a contract has yet to be finalized and there’s no guarantee a deal will be made.

The possibility of Hernández joining another team this offseason seems very real.

  1. If Freidman and the Dodgers really wanted Teoscar back he would be here. I get tired of the front office saying platitudes but just talk. The Dodgers can afford anyone they truly want. Same ole same ole!
