Dodgers’ Gavin Lux Exits Game vs Mets Early With Apparent Injury

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux exited Sunday night’s game following his at-bat in the sixth inning after being spotted in the dugout talking with manager Dave Roberts and an athletic trainer.

When the Dodgers returned to the field, Kiké Hernández moved from center field to second base and Kevin Kiermaier subbed in for Lux playing center field.

Lux was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored and the Dodgers led 6-0 at the time of his exit.

The second baseman is already scheduled to have Monday off when the New York Mets send left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea to the mound.

Manager Dave Roberts made that clear in his pregame media availability on Sunday, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

The decision to bench Lux for Game 2 stems from his struggles against left-handed pitchers. The 26-year-old, who hits from the left side, has had only 46 at-bats against lefties this season, compared to a hefty 393 against right-handers.

This season, Lux has put up a disappointing slash line of .152/.220/.174 against lefties, with just seven hits, seven runs, no home runs, and two RBIs. In contrast, he’s been much more effective against right-handed pitchers, hitting .256 in 2024.

The Dodgers faced Manaea earlier this season on April 19, and Lux didn’t play in that matchup. Manaea gave up four hits and two earned runs over five innings during that start.

This season, Lux has posted a batting average of .251 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs. On the other hand, Manaea has had a solid year, going 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA and racking up 184 strikeouts.

In the first round of the postseason, Lux has been a key player for the Dodgers, appearing in all five games and slashing .278/.300/.444 with five hits, three runs scored, one home run, and three RBIs.

As for Manaea, he has started two postseason games so far, allowing nine hits and three earned runs while striking out 10 over 12 innings.
