Dodgers’ Gavin Lux Updates Rehab Status: ‘I’ve Pretty Much Checked Off Every Box’

One of the more interesting storylines from the 2024 season for the Dodgers will be the return of some key players. Los Angeles was missing a few key guys last season due to injury, forcing them to find different ways to replicate the production.

One of those players was infielder Gavin Lux, who suffered a torn ACL during spring training. He missed the entire 2023 season while rehabbing, but is in line to make a full comeback this year.

Lux was going to finally be given the chance to be the everyday shortstop for Los Angeles. After he patiently waited for his turn, fate had other ideas in store.

But he is ready to go now, and the team is very excited to see him get back on the field. Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes spoke about him recently, saying that he should be “full go” for the season.

Lux joined SportsNet LA to discuss his rehab, and how things are looking for the upcoming regular season.

“With the workouts and stuff, everything feels great. Taking ground balls, moving really well laterally, running bases,” Lux said. “I think I’ve pretty much checked off every box at this point.”

This is incredible news for the Dodgers and goes directly in line with what many have said all offseason. It’s almost been a year since the injury, and Lux has attacked his rehab head-on.

He wants to prove he belongs as the shortstop for the Dodgers and that he can be the everyday infielder they need him to be. This is his chance to claim the shortstop position for himself and make sure everyone remembers why he was once a top prospect in the Los Angeles system.

In 2022, Lux showed signs of promise in his abilities. He improved his bat skills and added some speed, which helped him when on base. He slashed .276/.346/.745 with six home runs and 42 runs batted in over 129 games played.

The Dodgers could help ease him back into the season with the depth they have available on the roster. Both Chris Taylor and Miguel Rojas will back him up, and they can be quality options to switch in and out while Lux fully gets back up to speed.

It should be a solid season for the young infielder, and one where he won’t have to do everything himself. The Dodgers have one of the best rosters in baseball, so Lux will just need to be himself and execute his game when given the chance.
