Dodgers GM Discusses Teoscar Hernández Free Agency, Reveals LA’s Plan

As the Los Angeles Dodgers shift their focus from the World Series to the offseason, general manager Brandon Gomes revealed how the team plans to approach Teoscar Hernández’s free agency.

“Teo was a huge part of what we accomplished this year on the field,” Gomes said. “You could see very clearly a huge impact in the clubhouse with younger guys, and his energy. So, we’ll have conversations with Teo and his group ASAP.”

Hernández has repeatedly said that he wants to return to Los Angeles for the 2025 season. Fans have also come to his aid by sharing their opinions on social media. Although the outfielder is a fan favorite and had a strong debut season in a Dodgers uniform, Hernández enters free agency as a popular commodity.

A number of teams are already showing interest in adding Hernández to their lineup. But the latest word from Gomes indicates that the Dodgers are taking a proactive approach in getting a deal finalized with the outfielder.

The feeling is mutual between both parties as Hernández has been very vocal about re-signing with the Dodgers.

“My hopes are really high,” Hernández said of re-signing. “Like I’ve said before, the Dodgers are the priority obviously. I’m going to do everything in my power to come back.”

Gomes and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman will have to decide whether to keep Hernández along with several other free agents. The Dodgers are also reportedly interested in signing Willy Adames or Juan Soto, meaning the Dodgers likely won’t be able to keep every World Series champion from 2024 heading into free agency.

The list includes Walker Buehler, Jack Flaherty, Blake Treinen, Joe Kelly, and Kiké Hernández. Which players the Dodgers decide to keep will soon come to light.

But for now, Dodgers fans will have to wait to see who stays and who goes from the 2024 roster.

  1. Teoscar had a great season with the Boys in Blue this year, tip of my hat to him.

However, while I don’t know him personally, never met him, I just have the feeling he’s going for the best financial deal, regardless of anything else. If he does depart I wish him well, he had a great year and made significant contributions and we’ll miss him. But I’m not holding my breath on him resigning.

  2. I hope the Dodgers keep both Kike and Teoscar. I hope they keep Treinen and Buehler as well. Forget Soto. He’s a defensive liability. I feel they need to go after Adames.

    1. I could see letting Buhler go. He was great for a few weeks, but can he replicate that for a whole season? History of pitchers after 2 Tommy Johns is not encouraging. The Ds paid him $millions while he was rehabbing for 2 years, if his demands are reasonable, then maybe. I think of Bumgarner, who had arguably one of the most dramatic performances in a WS ever in 2014, but he never regained his power after an injury.

  3. I believe Teo is sincere about wanting to come back and as long as the Dodgers are close he will come back. Also need to sign Trienen, sign Sasaki, and Adames. Repeat!

  4. Obviously the Dodgers can afford anything or anybody they want, so it seems. But where do they draw the line? Soto, Adames, Teo, Buehler, Trienen, Sasaki (least expensive) or whoever. There has to be a budget somewhere. I hope that Friedman can complete the trifecta that he started two years ago with JD Martinez then Teo. Regardless, I am very optimistic to see the 26 man roster next March.

  5. The energy that Teoscar Hernandez provided his peers in and outside the dugout before, during and after they (Dodgers) won the National League Championship was monumental. Even when he had his short periods of not getting on base. He was outside the dugout congratulating his teammates on a job well done. His rich winning spirit was viewed by this lifetime Dodger fan.

  6. Yes get Sasaki, he’ll be affordable. Must Re-sign Teo, Kike, Treinen, Buehler and get Adames. A definite NO be for “does-not-fit” Soto. You can sign all these guys for what Boras and Soto wants. He’s overrated, overpriced, arrogant, and not worth to be strapped for years with no guarantee. Finally he is not Ohtani kind of money with no marketing returns.

    1. We don’t deal well. or much with Boras. I cam’t recall the last Boras client we signed.

  7. Soto will not be a Dodger. He will be a Met. The Dodgers organization are careful of upsetting a culture that thrives on family-like relationships. Remeber when Jason Heyward left? Not pretty. I doubt very seriously any of the above mentioned names leave. They’ll all be signed.

  8. Keep the Hernandez Boys, Treinen,, Buehler, Flaherty, and Kelly. In other words, The Dodgers. That aint Soto

  9. I’m back in support of Dave Roberts – I was really happy to see that he has the team using fundamentals like the bunt during the post-season. The Dodgers have good bunters, I hope Dave continues this use. Let’s keep the family team intact.
