Dodgers: J.D. Martinez Joins Rare Company With Move to Los Angeles

L.A. made a big signing yesterday as they brought in D.H. slugger J.D. Matinez. Martinez signed for a one-year deal after spending the last five seasons with the Boston Red Sox, in which he earned an All-Star selection in four seasons and won the World Series in 2018.

The 12-year veteran has been a part of three other organizations, including one season with Dodgers’ division rival Arizona Diamondbacks.

In his lone season with the D-Backs in 2017, Arizona crushed the Dodgers in an early September meeting, 13-0.

J.D. did his part and more in that meeting, crushing FOUR home runs in 5 A.B.s and was responsible for 6 RBIs.

MLB reporter Sarah Langs shared a stat with us on Twitter, saying Martinez will be the second player in MLB history to join a team who had hit four home runs against.

It all started in the top of the fourth inning on a 2-2 count against left Rich Hill that landed in left-center field. In Martinez’s third A.B., he hit a solo oppo taco on Pedro Baez in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 3-0. The very next inning, he hit another solo homer to right field to give the D-backs a 7-0 lead. And in the ninth inning, he was really feeling it; with an 11-0 lead, Martinez showed no mercy crushing one to left field to give him his fourth home run of the game and his 34th of the season.

The guy was on fire, and hopefully, we can see a glimpse of that next season.

We’re excited to have J.D. don the Dodger blue!
