Dodgers Land in Top-5 of MLB Power Rankings on Eve of 2023 Regular Season

After a long offseason of waiting, MLB’s opening week is finally here. In just a few days, the Dodgers will be playing against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, in a game that actually counts in the standings.

With opening week finally here, that also means pre-season power rankings are coming in. The Dodgers spot has fluctuated in different expert’s rankings, however, on MLB.com, the Dodgers came in at a pretty fair No. 4. Here’s what MLB.com writer Will Leitch had to say about putting the Dodgers in his top five in the rankings.

“The Dodgers would like to remind you that they are, in fact, still here. They have won nine of the past 10 NL West titles, one of the past three World Series and, oh yes, 111 games last year. The worry about the Dodgers revolves around all the players they lost: Trea Turner, Tyler Anderson, Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Andrew Heaney, Chris Martin, Craig Kimbrel … basically a cornucopia of All-Stars. But that’s the thing about the Dodgers: They still have a ton of All-Stars! And in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, they have legitimate MVP candidates, along with depth that’s the envy of baseball. You can fret about their pitching and their sudden lack of a shortstop in the wake of Gavin Lux’s injury, but the Dodgers have a tendency to always come up with somebody. In an offseason where everything went wrong, they have dropped to … fourth. And probably not for long.”

I feel like the constant theme around the Dodgers this season is the fact that they’re, you know, still the Dodgers. Yes, they suffered a ton of losses this offseason, but it’s hard to count a team out that won 111 games last season and still has a ton of that same core in place.

Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are still two of baseball’s most talented players, and the rotation could be sneaky good this season. The biggest question mark may be the outfield, but the Dodgers have more than enough talent to have a consistent platoon this hits fairly well.
