Dodgers’ Legend Vin Scully On Potentially Returning For The World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are going back to the World Series for the first time since 1988. They absolutely crushed the Cubs on Thursday, with a final score of 11-1. Now all that is left is to find out whether they will play the New York Yankees or the Houston Astros.

Ever since the final out was recorded on Thursday, our mentions on Twitter have been flooded with fans begging the great Vin Scully to return for the World Series. Below are just a few of them!

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Dodger fans, but it doesn’t look like Vin Scully is interested in making a comeback for the World Series.

Here is what Vin Scully had to say on the matter in an email from Friday morning, originally reported on by Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News:

I honestly don’t feel I belong there and I would not want anyone to think I was eager for a spotlight.

Vin Scully was at Dodger Stadium for the first two games of the NLCS, though his presence was kept pretty under-wraps.

Vin Scully is no stranger to the biggest stage in all of baseball. In his 67 years, Vin Scully called 25 World Series! Unfortunately, it seems like that number will remain at 25 after what he had to say regarding a return in 2017.  The last World Series that he called was on the radio in 1997 and featured the Cleveland Indians and Florida Marlins. That makes it 20 years without hearing Vin’s sweet voice call the last games of October baseball.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments below!

  12. Vin Scully is way too classy to reappear for the World Series. He is a man of his word and would never interject himself into the limelight to overshadow the players of the Los Angeles Dodgers. We have special memories of his extraordinary play-by-play over the years. Vinny…this World Series is for you to enjoy. Y O U R O C K !!!

    1. The Dodgers have a fine play by play team in place now. It would not be appropriate for Vinny to come back and do a WS game. Let’s enjoy the memories and root for the Dodgers to be successful. They have a very good team this year.

  13. Would love for Vinny to do the opening game with his famous…”It’s time for Dodger baseball.” That’s all I ask.

  14. I am not at all surprised by his response. He never wanted anything to be about him, despite the fact that he has deserved every accolade he has ever had. This is classic Vin Scully–humble and gracious, in a world filled with people just the opposite. I hope he throws out the first pitch, at least, and is treated royally. He deserves no less. God bless you always, Mr. Scully.

  15. We (Los Angeles) needs to hear Vin call at least an inning to hear the stories we loved so much from the best announcer in baseball

  16. vince only needs to do what he and only he wants there has never been a classier act than vince scully we all miss him but all youtrue dodger fans think at one point you can hear his voice that should be all we need thanks for the memories and go dodgers

  17. I would love for Vin to throw the 1st pitch of the World Series opener. Then hear Ladies, Gentlemen and fans of all ages…… It’s time for DODGER BASEBALL!!!

  18. I came 700 mile to listen to Vin Scully broadcast at in LA before he retired. I’d love just to say “play ball”.

  19. Dear Vin Scully,

I grew up listening to you on the radio and television calling Dodgers baseball. I believe it would be a loss for broadcast history of you didn’t call the world series. Having been apart of history isn’t a choice, but a responsibility. I like many other fans love baseball and the Dodgers because of your passion and love for the game. I don’t think it would be shameful to announce the world series because of your history. I respect your choice, but I also feel that the Dodgers need Vin Scully for world series one last time. That’s my two cents, and thank you for such a long and wonderful carrier as well as making baseball as wonderful as you did. From a fan. Sincerely yours,
    Matthew Schulz

  20. Baseball is all about superstitions. Vin coming back from being out all season will disrupt the good juju we have now. Not saying it wouldn’t be awesome to have him announcing, just saying he knows better than to interrupt a teams superstitions.
