Dodgers Linked to Veteran Outfielder as Potential Trade Deadline Addition

As the Los Angeles Dodgers continue the season, the need for additional help in the outfield has come into play. Los Angeles has already sent James Outman down to the minor leagues, while Chris Taylor has been in a massive slump all season.

With the July 30 trade deadline still two months away, the Dodgers are doing what they can to stay above water at the position. But that doesn’t mean president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman isn’t doing his due diligence when it comes to scouting players across the league.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers may be exploring adding an outfielder at the deadline. The name that has come up is veteran right-hander Tommy Pham, currently with the Chicago White Sox.

“Even then, the Dodgers would be wise to explore the market for outfielders, who at the deadline generally are in ample supply. The White Sox’s Tommy Pham, a favorite of some in the organization, would be one possibility.”

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

Pham was linked to Los Angeles during the offseason but he wound up signing in Chicago. The White Sox likely knew that if he performed well through the first part of the year, they then could flip him at the deadline for some assets.

On the season, Pham has hit .294 with three home runs and 12 runs batted in. He has been a solid presence for the White Sox, even with the struggles that the team has seen this season.

Pham was a crucial piece to the Arizona Diamondbacks reaching the World Series last year. In the postseason for Arizona, he hit .279 with three home runs and four runs batted in.

Bringing in another right-handed bat couldn’t hurt as well, giving L.A. more versatility moving forward. The Dodgers will likely make some moves at the deadline and landing Pham could help solidify the roster for the stretch run of the season.

  1. Depends a lot on how Heyward, Vargas, and Pages perform in the coming month. Also, what would it cost us in prospects. Prospect cost could have gone up now that the Braves could be in the mix for an outfielder.

  2. 60 GAMES IN: JOURNEYMEN PITCHERS & PLAYERS, ATTEMPTS TO PUT A SQUARE PEG IN A ROUND HOLE (MOOKIE’S NOT BEING PAID TO BE, & IS NOT A SHORTSTOP), WEAK LINKS LUX & TAYLOR, PAGES LEG KICK=BODY PARTS MOVE FORWARD-HE’S OUT FRONT-NO CHANCE TO CATCH UP TO HIGH HEAT (EXAMPLE-K’D TONIGHT, HI HEAT WITH BAGS LOADED), & ALL BEING ‘LED’ BY “SCOUTMASTER DAVE.” DO YOU NOTICE A GLARING LACK OF CONTINUITY? NEXT 60 GAMES WILL BE CRITICAL!

    1. Yeah … But, no too. Betts wants to retire a SS. he is making progress, Albeit slow. There aren’t any SS around to replace him, we don’t have any on the farm: Joandry is projected at 2026 minimum! Bo (?), teams will have to pay big,.IF, he’s traded.
Ill admit Betts is a gamble though. Huge reward, semi loss. Imo

I agree with rest of your comment.

  3. VECCHIO FACTOR raises some interesting points. These things to keep in mind in the next 30 days to see Lax & Pages trajectories (both seem to be on the upswing….no pun intended ;>)

  4. Here lies another issue though: we still get shut down offensively even with CT3 & Lux not playing, lol. Rojas is doing what he does, but not gonna get it down ( much) he’s been good this far, proud of em!
Barnes hasn’t been to bad. Kike is meh at best. Then we have our OF. Do we just punt on: Pages, JHey n Outman? Even Teo is pissing me off sometimes! Bases loaded, crappy reliever just comes in….. He hacks away at first swing last night.

We are in trouble folks. Max ain’t coming back till break it looks like either.

    1. Remember Max before he was injured – he was striking out 40% of the time. He’s not going to save anything.

Just watched Pages watch a ball drop – just saying Outman would have laid out for it.
