Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas Admits He Thought Clayton Kershaw Would Return Next Season

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw retired after the 2025 season, ending a fabulous career in Dodger blue.

Kershaw spent 18 seasons with the Dodgers, making his debut in 2008. He made 455 appearances for the Dodgers in his career, keeping a 2.53 ERA, with which he served as MLB’s active leader until his retirement. Kershaw threw 15 complete game shutouts in his career — also leading active players until he retired — striking out 3,052 batters during his time in MLB.

The future Hall of Famer won an MVP award, the Triple Crown, three Cy Young awards, five ERA titles, three World Series championships and a Gold Glove while receiving 11 All-Star selections.

Dodgers utility man Miguel Rojas made his debut for the Dodgers in 2014, and returned to the team ahead of the 2023 season. After Kershaw’s retirement announcement in September, Rojas said he believed the lefty had some more time in him.

“I thought the whole time, with the season that he’s having, the way that he’s pitching, providing start after start an opportunity for a win, I thought he had a pretty good opportunity to pitch next year,” Rojas said.

While he thought Kershaw could still pitch in MLB, the veteran continued to say he understood the decision.

“Obviously there has to be reasons behind it, family related, health related, to make this decision. Regardless of what year he was gonna make this happen, I feel like he’s retiring at the moment where he’s at the top of the game still. He’s pitching at the highest level for a competitive team that wants to win the World Series, and I’m just happy for him that he got to experience all his time here in LA.”
