Player of the Day – Jon Garcia
The Dominican Summer League began yesterday and the Dodgers won on a walk-off passed ball. The biggest name on the club is Daniel Padilla, a potential five-tool outfielder who received a $200,000 bonus last year. Million dollar baby Lucas Tirado is in extended Spring Training and will likely play in one of the Dodgers’ short season rookie leagues.
Another note: Scott Schebler hit a two-out, walk-off home run for the Lookouts. Every affiliate won last night, with the Quakes scoring 16 runs in Lancaster. Corey Seager was a triple short of the cycle and Adam Law had four hits, but Jon Garcia stole the show with three home runs. The 22-year-old struggled in Double-A to start the season, but has shown off his power at the plate with Rancho. Garcia lacks plate discipline, as evidenced by his 3:36 walk to strikeout ratio, but his power bat and arm is intriguing.
