Dodgers’ Minor Leaguers Earn 5 Player of the Week Awards

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ farm system showed why it’s the best in MLB, winning five Player of the Week awards for the week of June 29-July 5.

Outfielder and No. 3 prospect Zyhir Hope earned his first Texas League Player of the Week award (AA), right-handed reliever Isaac Ayon won Pitcher of the Week in the Midwest League (A+) and Ontario Tower Buzzers outfielder Jaron Elkins won his second California league Player of the Week(A) award of the season.

In the Arizona Complex League, Agustin Acosta and Luis Gamez took home the Player of the Week award and Pitcher of the Week award, respectively.

Zyhir Hope, Double-A Tulsa

Hope, one of the top prospects in the organization and MLB, had a fantastic series against the Wichita Wind Surge last week. He batted .519 with a .563 on-base percentage during the series, hitting three homers and tallying 14 hits. He also tallied 13 RBIs across the six-game set.

Isaac Ayon, High-A Great Lakes

Ayon began the season in Single-A, but moved up after some solid performances in Ontario. He’s struggled for results since, but he began to figure things out over the last week. The right-hander made two appearances out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit through six innings while striking out eight batters.

Jaron Elkins, Single-A Ontario

Elkins had a strong six-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies, batting .519 with three homers and 11 runs scored. The 21-year-old is a prime candidate to move up in the system, as he has a 1.008 OPS through 54 games in Single-A this season.

Agustin Acosta, ACL

Fresh off of an IL stint, Acosta shoed just what he can do outside of the Dominican Summer League. He played five games last week, hitting a homer and driving in eight runs. He went 10-for-18 during that stretch, as his OPS on the season climbed to 1.185.

Luis Gamez, ACL

Gamez only pitched once for the ACL Dodgers last week, but he made the most of his sole appearance.

Through 4.2 innings pitched, Gamez only allowed three walks while striking out 11 batters to lower his season ERA to 3.52. He had a fantastic month of June, posting a 2.12 ERA through 17 innings pitched.
