Dodgers: Mookie Betts Out of the Lineup Amid Struggles

The Dodgers play the Diamondbacks for the last time this season tonight and they’ll be doing it without one of their best players. Mookie Betts was not in the lineup for Dave Roberts on Thursday night.

As of publishing time, there’s no word as to why the 5-time Gold Glove award winner is sitting, but in all likelihood, it’s just a rest day. LA has already clinched the NL West division crown and a first round bye into the NLDS. So, rest is welcome for all comers for sure.

On the other side of it, Mookie has struggled for the month of September…

In 19 games this month, the slugger is hitting just .203 with a .710 OPS. Over his last 15 games, he’s 10-65 (.172) with 8 strikeouts. He’s played in 130 of 149 games for the Dodgers so far this season, so it’s more than reasonable to expect some wear and tear from the grind of the long campaign.

Still, he’s put together another fine season for Los Angeles, hitting .270 with a .888 OPS and a career-high 35 home runs.

Tonight is game number 150 for the boys in blue which leaves 12 more on the calendar for the regular season. Hopefully, Mookie gets another day or two from now til then and gets right as the Dodgers head into the playoffs with World Series aspirations.
