Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Reveals How He’s Unplugged This Postseason After Deleting Social Media

Before Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts revealed that he had deleted social media. At the time, Betts was under heavy scrutiny on the internet for his recent postseason play.

Betts had gone 0-22 on his last 22 postseason at-bats, and was unable to replicate his regular season success in the postseason over that span.

“You know, it’s tough to really get away from everything because everyone’s watching,” Betts told reporters. “There’s family, friends, you guys, everybody is watching. And I’m doing this, I’m talking, so there’s no real way to get away from it.

“So really just getting off my phone, spending time with my kids, my wife, my family. That’s really the easiest way to get away from it.”

Betts’ postseason hitless streak extended back to the 2022 postseason, and summed up the Dodgers’ disappointing last two playoff series in 2022 and 2023.

“And then sometimes I just go into the locker room and just sit by myself just to get away from all the things that are going on and you can reset and come back to it,” Betts said. “It’s tough, but if you want to do it, you’ll find a way.”

After sharing he deleted social media, Betts returned to form in Game 3 of the NLDS — starting with a first inning home run. The Dodgers lost to the Padres that game, but Betts got his groove back. Betts helped the Dodgers to win their next two games — posting two hits in Game 4 — and secured a berth for the NL Championship Series. Betts overcame his postseason woes, and so did the Dodgers.

Betts has now hit .300 with 12 hits, 10 runs, four home runs, and 11 RBIs this postseason. He recorded his best performance of the postseason in Thursday’s 10-2 win over the New York Mets, notching one home run, four hits, three runs, and four RBIs across six at-bats. Betts’ efforts have helped the Dodgers take a 3-2 lead in the series, and come within one game of the team’s first World Series appearance since 2020.
