“So looks like I’m just going to be light for a little bit,” Bett said. “Maybe I play uphill a little bit for the beginning of the season. But I just want to play, man. I’m tired of sitting, tired of just throwing up, tired of doing all this. I just really just want to play.”
The Dodgers superstar reportedly lost nearly 15 pounds, and was sent home early from the team’s trip to Japan because of the illness.
The plan was for Betts to get four innings of play in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels; however, it’s evident he was not capable of doing so.
Betts revealed he weighs just 150 pounds after arriving to Camelback Ranch at 175 pounds. The Dodgers superstar has only been able to digest smoothies since becoming ill.
He has progressed in his recovery, but is still not able to hold solid food down. Betts has started new medication to help his stomach irritation.
There is no guarantee he will be ready for the Dodgers’ home opener against the Detroit Tigers.
