Dodgers Nation Wishes Scott Van Slyke A Happy Birthday
Outfielder Scott Van Slyke is in his third season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Van Slyke is currently hitting .257 with nine home runs and 17 RBIs over 65 games played this year. He also has a .514 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage.
Coming into a season with an established outfield cast of Yasiel Puig, Carl Crawford, Matt Kemp, and Andre Ethier, it was interesting to see the role Van Slyke would play.
With multiple injuries to outfield personnel along with rotating defensive strategies, Van Slyke has been given an opportunity to play in center field. The now 28-year-old has been a surprising contributor to the team this season and his nine home runs have tied the amount of homers he hit in his first two seasons combined.
Van Slyke attended John Burroughs High School in Missouri and was drafted by the Dodgers in the 14th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He was signed by the team that same year and made his Dodgers debut on May 30, 2012, against the San Francisco Giants. In his MLB debut, Van Slyke had a pinch-hit RBI in a 6-2 win.
Dodgers Nation would like wish Scott Van Slyke a happy 28th birthday.
