Dodgers Nation’s Top 10 Moments of the Final Week of Regular Season
The Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the best record and are awaiting the results of Monday’s doubleheader between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets before looking away as to who they could play in the National League Division Series that begins on Saturday.
The highlight of the week was winning the division against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium but nine other moments stood out to Dodgers Nation.
Here are the top 10 moments from the Dodgers last week:
10. Tommy Edman’s Great Play Up the Middle
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh on Saturday night in Denver, Colorado’s Jake Cave sent a ball right back up the middle almost decapitating Justin Wrobleski.
Luckily, shortstop Tommy Edman was there to make a diving stop to his left and fired to first for the out.
9. Miguel Mojas Turns Unique Double Play
Sometimes a hit-and-run doesn’t go the way it was planned and that’s what happened against the Padres.
Shortstop Miguel Rojas was covering second base on a steal and luckily he was in the perfect spot to field a ground ball, tag the bag, and throw to first from a seated position.
8. Teoscar Hernandez Record New Career High
With one out and two runners on base against the Rockies, Dodgers outfielder and Home Run Derby champion Teoscar Hernandez launched his 33rd home run of the season into the center field bleachers at Coors Field.
The three-run shot set a new single-season career-high for Hernandez for home runs. It was also his fifth homer in his last 12 games.
7. Kiké Hernandez Go-Ahead Home Run
The Dodgers were trailing the Rockies 1-0 and had two runners on when infielder Kiké Hernandez stepped up to the plate delivering a clutch moment.
He blasted a ball deep to center and gave the Dodges a 3-1 lead with one swing.
6. Chris Taylor’s Game-Tying Home Run
From where Chris Taylor began the season to where he finished, it was a huge difference.
On Sunday afternoon with the Dodgers trailing 1-0, Chris Taylor tied the game with one swing sending the ball out into the right-field bleachers for an opposite-field home run.
5. Walker Buehler’s Solid Start
Walker Buehler didn’t get the decision but his five innings of one-run baseball turned into a division-clinching win for the Dodgers.
Buehler has struggled since returning from the injured list but has looked stronger with each start and while he only struck out one San Diego batter, he limited the Padres to five hits.
4. Shohei Ohtan’s Go-Ahead RBI Single
It became a scenario all too familiar for opponents: pitch to Shohei Ohtani or to Mookie Betts?
With the game knotted up at 3-3, the Padres decided to pitch to Ohtani who made them instantly regret that decision with a go-head run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
3. Michael Kopech Secures the Win
Since he arrived in Los Angeles at the trade deadline, Michael Kopech has become the Dodgers’ deadliest weapon out of the bullpen.
The flame-throwing closer secured the comeback win for the Dodgers and dropped the magic number down to two.
2. Dodgers Have Five-Run Inning Against Padres
The Dodgers couldn’t figure Padres starter Joe Musgrove out until catcher Will Smith broke through with a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Smith began a rally that led to three more runs including a run-scoring single off the bat of Ohtani.
1. Dodgers Clinch NL West
It never gets old.
