Dodgers News and Rumors: Five Dodgers Are Finalists For Gold Glove
Although they ranked second to last in the National League in errors committed, five Los Angeles Dodgers have been named finalists for the 2013 NL Gold Glove at their respective positions.
A.J. Ellis, Mark Ellis, Adrian Gonzalez, Juan Uribe and Zack Greinke were chosen as finalists and the Dodgers led the National League with five nominees. Each position has three finalists, but the winners will be announced on Tuesday night in a special on ESPN 2 at 5 PM PST.
Gonzalez is the only one who has previously won a Gold Glove, but this year he isn’t the favorite at first base. Uribe and Greinke have the best chance at winning a Gold Glove as Uribe only committed five errors this past season and Greinke didn’t commit one at all.
The other three candidates aren’t considered favorites, but it’s an honor to even be nominated and it shows the Dodgers had one of the better defensive infields in the majors.
After signing a three-year deal worth $21 million, Uribe didn’t live up to expectations and even started this season behind Luis Cruz on the depth chart. However, after a stellar defensive year at third base and a heroic blast in Game 4 of the NLDS, Uribe’s stock is on the rise and winning a Gold Glove could only drive up his asking price in free agency.
