Dodgers News And Rumors: Ramirez Leaves Contract In Agent’s Hands
The regular season has already gone underway, and the Los Angeles Dodgers and Hanley Ramirez still have not agreed upon any sort on contract extension although it has been reported that they are in private negotiations. Despite the fact that most teams like to get these extensions out of the way prior to the season beginning, it seems that the Dodgers are taking their time with their shortstop. With both parties expressing interest in the extension, it is not a matter of if this extension will happen, but it is more a matter of seeing when it will happen and how much it will be worth.
With that being said, the 30-year-old has revealed his specific instructions to his agent as negotiations proceed. Ramirez told his agent that he doesn’t want to hear a word about the talks with the team, and that the agent should just do whatever he feels is appropriate. The Dodgers shortstop added that he is eventually expecting a call when he needs to have a physical done, but that’s what will be the extent of his involvement.
The Dodgers assumed Ramirez’s six-year extension originally signed with the Miami Marlins, and he is currently in his last year of that contract. The shortstop is clearly a major presence on the field and off the field for the Dodgers, and one can imagine that the organization will be generous in their negotiations.
