Dodgers News: Austin Barnes Forced to Exit Tuesday’s Game Early After Vicious Blow to Head

Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes was forced to exit Tuesday night’s game in Miami early after taking a vicious blow to the head on a Nick Fortes backswing. He was checked by training staff and remained in the game but was replaced shortly thereafter by Will Smith who remained in the game at catcher for the final few innings.

Here’s a look at the hit that caught him on the left side of the head.

To get Smith in at catcher, the Dodgers were also forced to lose their designated hitter, which is where Will started the game.

Barnes was 0-3 in the game and is hitting .168 in 50 games this season.

The Dodgers lost to the Marlins 6-3 to open a 6 game road trip.
