Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Officially Activated, Dustin May Placed on 60-Day Injured List

Today, the Dodgers officially activated top prospect Bobby Miller and added him to the active roster. In order to make room for him on the active roster and 40-man roster, RHP Dustin May was placed on the 60-day injured list. Additionally, RHP Tyler Cyr was placed on the injured list with shoulder impingement.

Miller will have all eyes on him as he makes his MLB debut against the Braves. The former first round draft pick sped through the minor leagues after being drafted just three years ago in 2020. The Dodgers hold Miller in high regard but aren’t exactly sure he’s 100% ready for the show just yet. After battling shoulder soreness this spring, the right-hander debuted late in April and has made just 4 starts at Triple-A so far this season.

He’s coming off the finest start of his AAA career allowing just 1 run on 2 hits over 6 innings.

“I have the utmost confidence in Bobby going out there and handling himself,” Dodgers assistant pitching coach Rob Hill told the LA Times of his debut. “We’ll see what happens. I feel like no one is ever fully ready [for their debut]. But no better time than now, in my opinion.”

As for May, the 60-day move makes the most sense. When Roberts said the right-hander could be out for “four weeks as the floor” that was vintage Dave BS-ing. Dustin was always going to be out for two to three months at minimum while recovering from his forearm injury and PRP injection.

Hopefully, though, the All-Star break is the end of his recovery, and the Dodgers get him back by the end of July. Because if not, the Dodgers starting rotation could be in real trouble.

As for Cyr, his “shoulder impingement” screams of a phantom IL situation to keep him in the organization while the club weathers a rough patch pitching wise. Either way, he got into 2 games with the Dodgers over the weekend, allowing a hit and no runs over 1.2 innings. Overall, he’s struggled at AAA this season, posting a 4.86 ERA but has a better track record than that over the years (3.08 career minor league ERA). He pitched well for the Oakland A’s to end last season after making his MLB debut as a 29-year-old with the Phillies earlier in the year. We’ll see if he gets another opportunity after his “IL trip” or if we’ve seen the end of Cyr for the year.

It’ll be a fun matchup for baseball with Bobby Miller making his debut against young Atlanta phenom Spencer Strider. First pitch is set for 4:20 PM PT.
