Dodgers News: Dalton Rushing Wins Prestigious Award

The Los Angeles Dodgers named prospect Dalton Rushing the Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year for the 2024 season, via Cary Osborne. The award, named in honor of the former Dodgers general manager who signed Jackie Robinson and came up with the modern farm system, is given annually to a Dodgers minor league Player.

Rushing wins the award playing for both Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City during the 2024 season. Rushing was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City for the first time this season, and slashed .269/.392/.477 for 35 hits, 22 runs, seven home runs, and 23 RBIs over 35 games. Overall on the season, Rushing slashed .270/.383/.501 with 111 hits, 66 runs, 24 home runs, and 82 RBIs over 112 total games in Double-A and Triple-A.

Rushing’s breakout season saw him propel up MLB.com’s top 100 prospects list. He ranked No. 46 on the list in the middle of the season and has now risen to No. 36 on the list. He is the Dodgers’ top-ranked prospect, and one of their five players on the top-100 list which also features Josue De Paula, River Ryan, Alex Freeland, and Jackson Ferris.

The Dodgers have yet to call up Rushing for his MLB debut, but the 23-year-old told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain he would be ready for the opportunity if he does get brought up to the majors this season.

“If there’s an opportunity that arises, whether is Week 1 through the postseason or whatever it is, I’m going to be ready,” Rushing told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain earlier this month. “That’s something I just want to make sure that they know from day one. They can call my name whenever it comes and know that I’ll go up there and get the job done. That’s my biggest goal is how can I press the envelope and force my own hand. That’s kind of what I’ve taken to the plate recently.”

Along with Rushing, the Dodgers named left-handed pitcher Jackson Ferris the Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Ferris has pitched for both High-A and Double-A this season, going 5-7 with a 3.20 ERA and 145 strikeouts.
