Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Provides Latest Injury Update on Gavin Lux

Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux exited Game 1 of the National League Championship Series early with a tightened hip flexor. The 26-year-old was absent from the Dodgers’ Game 2 lineup and was replaced by outfielder Andy Pages on Monday. Lux had played in every previous game in the postseason.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said although Lux was not healthy enough to start, he could have been used as a pinch-hitter.

The Dodgers closed in on the Mets late in the game. By the sixth inning, New York was up by just three runs, making using Lux as pinch-hitter tempting. However, Mets outfielder Starling Marte’s RBI single in the ninth inning was enough for Roberts to keep Lux on the sidelines.

“He was not healthy enough to start, to run, to play defense,” Roberts said. “I had him ready for that spot in the eighth if I thought it was leverage enough for him to hit. Once they scored the extra run in the top half of the ninth, I just felt that I’m not going to risk putting Gavin in a little bit more harm’s way. And so I thought Pages was the best option in that moment.”

Lux has been a key part of the Dodgers lineup this postseason. He’s slashed .263/.318/.421, tallying five hits and three RBIs. He hit a home run in the Dodgers’ series-tying NLDS Game 4 to revive the once lifeless Los Angeles offense.

Perhaps Lux’s bat could have boosted the Dodgers’ offense for a comeback victory against the Mets in Game 2.

The Dodgers have an off day on Tuesday. This gives Lux two full days of rest to get healthy to return for Game 3 on Wednesday.

  1. IF YOU HEARD DAVE ROBERTS POST GAME INTERVIEW, YOU HEARD A MANAGER WHO IS TOTALLY CLUELESS, AND INCAPABLE. HE STUMBLED THROUGH HIS ANSWERS, WHICH MADE LITTLE OR NO SENSE AS TO WHY HE USED ROOKIE LANDON KNACK IN THE SECOND INNING. HIS TOP RELIEVERS HAD A DAY OFF BEFORE THE SERIES STARTED, AND FLAHERTY WENT 7 INNINGS DEEP IN THE FIRST GAME, GIVING THE RELIEVERS MORE REST…PLUS, THEY HAVE ANOTHER DAY OFF TOMORROW. SO WHY DID THIS MEDIOCRE MANAGER PUT KNACK IN THE GAME IN THE SECOND INNING TODAY?? IT WAS VERY BAD, DUMB DECISION! THERE ARE NO EXCUSES, SINCE, CONTRARY TO HIS WORD SALAD ANSWERS, HE HAD HIS WHOLE EXPERIENCED AND RESTED RELIEF STAFF AVAILABLE TO USE TODAY. SO AGAIN, WHY, WHY, WHY DID HE USE A ROOKIE IN A MUST WIN GAME, SINCE THAT ROOKIE, KNACK, ONLY PITCHED ONE INNING IN THE LAST 15 DAYS? SORRY FANS, BUT IT’S ANOTHER BAD EXAMPLE OF HOW DAVE ROBERTS HAS NO CLUE HOW TO MAKE SOLID, STRATEGIC, IN-GAME DECISIONS IN CRUCIAL GAMES, AND SITUATIONS. HE SAID HUDSON WAS DOWN, AND VESIA WAS UNAVAILABLE. ROBERTS ADMITTED HUDSON WAS NOT HURT, AND COULD’VE PITCHED TODAY, AS WELL AS OTHER HIGH END RELIEVERS, WHICH WOULD’VE BEEN MUCH BETTER THAN THE ROOKIE KNACK! HE ALSO COULD’VE STARTED WALKER BUEHLER AT HOME , WHICH WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER SLOT FOR HIM AS OPPOSED TO PITCHING IN NEW YORK ON WEDNESDAY. THEY SAY “STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES,” AND THAT EXPLAINS DAVE ROBERTS AS A MAJOR LEAGUE MANAGER. REMEMBER, HE’S BEEN GIVEN MAJOR, HIGH-PRICED TALENT, AND IS EXPECTED TO LEAD A GLOBAL SPORTS FRANCHISE, THE LA DODGERS. HE HAS MADE MANY COSTLY DECISIONS THAT HAVE SUBVERTED THE DODGERS ABILITY TO WIN BIG GAMES…AND WORLD SERIES TITLES. HIS MANAGING STYLE, WITH ALL THE TALENT HE HAS, IS TO ROLL THE BALL OUT, AND LET THE STARS DO THEIR THING. HE’S MORE A PLACE-SETTER WHO IS NOTHING MORE THAN A FIGUREHEAD THAT’S IN WAY OVER HIS HEAD! THE BRUCE BOCHY’S, TITO FRANCONA’S, AND MANY OTHER MANAGERS, WOULD WIN MULTIPLE TITLES WITH THE TALENT LA HAS! IF ROBERTS CAN’T NAVIGATE THE DODGERS TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES THIS YEAR, WE SUGGEST THE DODGERS OWNERSHIP GO GET A TOP NOTCH BASEBALL MAN TO MANAGE LA, AND LIKELY WIN MORE THAT ONE ABBREVIATED SEASON TITLE IN THE LAST 37 YEARS!
