Dodgers News: Fernando Valenzuela’s Cause of Death Revealed

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela died at the age of 63 last month. At the time, the cause of death was not known. However, TMZ reported Tuesday that Valenzuela died of septic shock, according to his death certificate which TMZ obtained.

The death certificate lists septic shock as the immediate cause of death. Septic shock is a life-threatening condition that occurs when organs malfunction, leading to low blood pressure. The medical examiner listed decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis cirrhosis as underlying causes.

Additionally, the document shows that Valenzuela was cremated. His funeral was held last week.

Valenzuela was one of the most influential baseball players in MLB history, and donned a Dodgers uniform as a pitcher for 11 seasons. His No. 34 jersey was retired by the Dodgers last year. Late this regular season, he stepped away from the broadcasting booth for undisclosed health reasons.

Major League Baseball honored Valenzuela at the World Series, and the Dodgers honored him at the team’s World Series parade, which was held on what would have been his 64th birthday.
