Dodgers News: Giants Pose Real Threat for Greinke, per CBS
Just as fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers were riding high, thinking they might get to stick it to the St. Louis Cardinals by potentially signing away Jason Heyward, we get to hear how the hated San Francisco Giants are seriously in the running for Zack Greinke.
That’s unfortunate.
ICYMI: How Dodgers’ Search for Manager Is Symbolic for Franchise’s Direction
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported it Friday afternoon:
The Giants are very much interested in Greinke by all appearances, and may well have made him their No. 1 target. The Giants are actually said to have interest in acquiring two starting pitchers, so it remains to be seen whether they can compete financially with the Dodgers, who are aiming to bring Greinke back into the fold.
Heyman isn’t the first to have brought this rumor up, and the reasoning makes sense. The Giants have a lot of money to spend and are reportedly ready to spend it. I mean, it has been a whole two years since they last won a World Series.
Gosh, I hate that team.
The momentum regarding Greinke’s return to the Dodgers has undeniably changed. Now, these things happen in the typical cycle of free agency. One day, there’s no conceivable way a player leaves his current situation, another day, it’s just a matter of time ’til they’re being introduced in front of the media in some different city. That’s just how this goes.
If Greinke does wind up in San Francisco, I guess Dodgers fans can take solace in not having to hear him being announced as “reigning Cy Young winner and former Dodger Zack Greinke” when the Dodgers and Giants face off.
It’s not much, but hey; I guess it’s the little things.
I don’t make personal requests very often — if ever — but please, Dodgers: please don’t let this happen.
