Dodgers News: Jack Flaherty’s Mom Pens Heartfelt Message After Son’s Dominant Performance

The Dodgers came out in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series and hit the first punch, going up 1-0 in the series. The Mets responded in Game 2 with a 7-3 win, but that only made Jack Flaherty’s performance in Game 1 that much more important.

The Dodgers were at their best in Game 1, and their right-handed ace and Los Angeles native was the best he’s looked all season.

Flaherty was wheeling and dealing and doing whatever he wanted against the Mets. Flaherty’s mom, Eileen Flaherty, took to Twitter/X and shared a heartfelt message after her son’s incredible performance on the biggest stage.

“20 years later…this kid had his moment @Dodgers Stadium in the NLCS Game 1. We are so thankful for the joyful hugs, beaming smiles and overwhelming support. Let’s GO Blue! Mama Flare,” tweeted Eileen.

Jack grew up a Dodgers fan and he pitched the game of his life in NLCS Game 1. Across seven spectacular innings, he allowed only two hits, zero runs, two walks, and had six strikeouts on 98 pitches. On top of that, he helped the Dodgers surpass a National League postseason record of scoreless innings. L.A. surpassed the 1095 New York Giants postseason record of 28 scoreless innings, and got all the way up to 33 innings before allowing a run in the first inning of Game 2.

After the game, Flaherty spoke on what it meant to pitch in the stadium he is so familiar with and in front of his family.

“Man, those are the days, those are the best days we had,” Flaherty said. “I still have my buddies I played with, saw a couple of them there in the stands. Just real cool. Real cool having the support of all of them.”

“Walking off the mound, I usually have been able to keep it together no matter what, even if it’s the end of an outing,” Flaherty said. “Yeah, it’s hard not to smile there.”

Flaherty is living the dream: playing for his hometown team and on the biggest stage thus far. Catcher Will Smith noted that he has something special about him, and that was evident in his Sunday outing.

“He’s got an aura about him,” Smith said. “He’s super competitive, super focused. I see all his preparation he does for the couple days before the start. It’s intense.”

Flaherty will likely take the mound again in Game 5 in New York.
