Dodgers News: Jason Heyward Speaks On Motivation for LA Post NL West Clinch

Over the weekend, the Dodgers clinched its 10th NL West division title in the past 11 seasons. After a night of partying following the clinch, the team came out and continued to play like a World Series contending team.

Although they already have the NL West crown, veterans of the Dodgers are not satisfied with just the division win.

Jason Heyward is in his first season with the Dodgers but has some of the most postseason experience on the team. The right fielder is a World Series champion with the Cubs and has participated in eight different Octobers.

As someone who has won division titles before, Heyward is one of the voices in the clubhouse letting others know that the job isn’t finished.

“The finish line, to us, is that we want to be the last team on the field, winning whenever the last game is, and that’s to try to win every day,” Heyward said. “We prepare. We don’t think about what’s going on next or what happened before. We’ve got to go right now. And I think that is just the epitome of our group. So there’s no thoughts of the finish line or ‘keep pushing.’ We just push every day.”

Heyward proved that he is ready to keep pushing on Sunday following Saturday’s clinch. In the series finale in Seattle, Heyward went 3-5 and was a triple shy of the cycle.

The veteran outfielder is having one of the best seasons of his career with the Dodgers as he’s hitting a career-high .286 and an OPS of .866.

Heyward isn’t the only player pushing for the Dodgers to keep going. Austin Barnes has been a part of eight of the ten division-winning teams since his debut in 2015.

He is another player in the locker room who is urging players to not slow and that the ultimate goal is not finished yet.

“We just gotta keep playing baseball,” Barnes said. “When you take your foot off the pedal, it’s hard to turn it on and off. So that’s the biggest thing. Keep going. Keep playing good baseball.”

Barnes also had a great day at the plate on Sunday as he hit his second home run of the season.

The Dodgers know that they want to win a World Series this year. While it is nice that the division is won, the team still has more work to do.
