Dodgers News: Kiké Hernández Emotional in Reunion with Dodger Stadium Fans

Everyone’s favorite Dodger clubhouse teammate is bringing more than just his dance moves back to Chavez Ravine.

In Tuesday night’s win against the Oakland Athletics, utilityman Kiké Hernández had a special performance on both sides of the ball and caught up with Sportsnet LA field reporter Kirsten Watson to discuss his emotional return home.

After two full seasons away from the franchise with the Boston Red Sox, Hernández was brought back to the Dodgers by GM Andrew Friedman to give the team some defensive depth and another right-handed bat to their hopeful postseason lineup.

Hernández has had his fair share of memorable moments with the franchise including a three-homer game back in the 2017 NLCS to down the Cubs en route to the franchise’s first Fall Classic since 1988.

The Puerto Rican utilityman brought some more postseason flair in recent seasons after a game-tying home-run in the sixth inning of the seventh and final game of the NLCS in 2020 that led to a Dodger championship.

He continued his postseason heroics for the Boston Red Sox in 2021 after mashing his way to a surprise ALCS appearance against the Houston Astros.

Across two series, a five-game torrid stretch netted him 34 total bases, a new MLB record.

This season with the Red Sox hadn’t been going the way Hernández wanted, but it looks like a change of scenery is doing the trick to get his groove back.

Hernández finsished Tuesday’s game with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning and an impressive catch in foul ground in the sixth inning showing Dodgers fans a glimpse of his importance to the team.

In what proved to be both Hernández’s and new starter acquisition Lance Lynn’s big nights, the former is proving the old saying right: There truly is no place like home.
