Dodgers News: Kikè Hernández Reveals Swing Changes He’s Made Since Coming to LA

Kiké Hernàndez has been a welcome addition to the Dodgers. Last week, he returned to the Dodgers from the Boston Red Sox. While in Boston, Hernàndez struggled. Since in Los Angeles, he’s been much better, already having five hits and four runs batted in, including a bases-clearing, three-run double on Tuesday.

What changed? Hernández explained:

“I guess I just created some really bad habits over the last few years and we’re trying to clean that up,” Hernández said. “We’re getting to a better spot, to where it allows me to get my — not necessarily my A-swing off on a daily basis — but to get me in a better position to drive the ball more consistently. …

“I feel like the last couple days in Boston, I started swinging the bat better. But since I got here, we started locking it in on the mechanics. From just watching video the last couple days, it looks better than what I was doing over there. Just keep building off it.”

Unlike in Boston, Hernàndez isn’t expected to be an everyday player. With the Dodgers, he plays against left-handers. He’s always hit well against left-handers in his career, and that’s something the Dodgers needed help with.

Hernàndez has infused excitement and fun into the Dodgers, something they needed. Yes, Hernàndez takes his play seriously since he wants himself and the Dodgers to succeed, but he knows how to have fun while working hard. He embraces the grind.

Hernàndez’s versatility will help the Dodgers both get to the playoffs and succeed when they get there. He has a career .900 OPS in the postseason.
