Dodgers News: LA Recalls 2 Relievers as Almonte Goes on Paternity, Hudson Officially to IL

Prior to their series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Dodgers made a series of moves to their roster. The team placed veteran reliever Daniel Hudson on the injured list as he sprained his MCL, put Yency Almonte on paternity leave and activated two pitchers in Alex Vesia and Nick Robertson.

Losing Hudson is a massive blow to this Dodgers team. He had just come back from a torn ACL a little over a week ago and was giving them another strong option out of the pen. Hudson just got his first save in over a year and spoke about how much it meant to him so this one really stings. He will likely be out for an extended period of time.

Almonte leaves the team after his wife gave birth earlier in the day. On the year, he holds an ERA of 5.15 across 36.2 innings and has 36 strikeouts.

Vesia rejoins the team and is hoping for better results this time around. He has an ERA of 7.58 this season over 19 innings pitched. Vesia has struggled this season to match his level of production from last year when he held an ERA of 2.15 and was one of the teams more relied upon options.

And finally, Robertson comes back to the Dodgers to give them some help in the bullpen. On the year, he has played in six games and has an ERA of 7.04 over 7.2 innings thrown.

Neither Vesia, nor Robertson give the team any real sort of hope based on their seasons thus far but LA is managing this situation the best they can. They have been hit left and right with injuries, forcing them to maneuver in ways that they never imagined.

This is just another example of why the team needs to be aggressive in making some moves as the trade deadline approaches. They can’t keep going this way and just duct-taping the issue. LA needs some real solutions and hopefully making a trade or two can solve their problems.
