Dodgers News: MLB Insider Believes NL West is Just a Two-Team Race This Year

The National League West is undoubtedly the best division in baseball.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Francisco Giants all look like playoff teams at this given time.

San Diego’s pitching has been spectacular thus far. When throwing in some heavy star power from Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, and others, the Padres should be in it for the long haul.

Willy Adames signing with the Giants in the offseason was a massive move. Jung Hoo Lee is off to a fantastic start, and the pitching will always play in the Bay. Arizona has one of the deepest and most talented rosters top-to-bottom in the league. Of course, you then have the Dodgers — the reigning World Series champs with plenty to prove.

When speaking with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, MLB pundit Bob Nightengale broke down the National League West in totality. He believes that two teams stand out from the rest.

“I still think the Dodgers are the clear-cut favorite,” Nightengale said on Dodgers Dougout Live. “I still think it’s probably more of a two-team race. I’m not gonna dismiss the Diamondbacks. I don’t see the Giants hanging around. But I do think all four teams have a chance to make the playoffs.”

Based on the recent history between the teams, all of baseball would love to see another clash between the Dodgers and Padres in postseason play. Both squads have proven more than capable of being legitimate contenders.

San Francisco might not have the hype each of the other three NL West squads may possess. However, the Giants do appear to have enough talent to be a real pain in the proverbial neck. From there, assuming Corbin Burnes bounces back from a slow start, Arizona will likely be in contention throughout the year.
