Dodgers News: Todd Leitz Chosen As New PA Announcer

Todd Leitz

There will be a different voice heard throughout Dodger Stadium this season.

Eric Smith has been the Los Angeles Dodgers public address announcer since 2002, but he won’t be in 2015. Smith would have been unable to fulfill his duties this year, and the Dodgers have chose his successor.

Todd Leitz will be the voice heard before, during and immediately after Dodger games. He was a finalist for the job with the San Diego Padres, and will head north to do the job for the NL West champions.

Here’s the official press release:

LOS ANGELES – Public information officer and former local news broadcaster Todd Leitz has been selected as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ public address announcer for the 2015 season it was announced today.

Leitz, 51, is public information officer for MySafe:LA which operates under a memorandum of agreement as the Public Education and Community Risk Reduction partner of the Los Angeles Fire Department and City of Los Angeles. He has been handling all communications and media relations for the division since 2012.

Prior to joining MySafeLA, Leitz spent 10 years with KNX 1070 NewsRadio as an anchor and news reporter and two years as a news reporter at KABC 790.

“Todd is a terrific broadcaster and a lifelong Dodger fan,” said Lon Rosen, the Dodgers’ Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer. “He was the perfect choice to be the next Dodger Stadium public address announcer.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited to be part of a world-class organization like the Los Angeles Dodgers,” Leitz said. “I can’t wait to start working with the crew that does such a great job making the Dodger Stadium experience second to none for the best baseball fans in the world.”

The San Fernando Valley resident and UC San Diego graduate takes over for Eric Smith, who could not fulfill the season schedule because of other commitments. Leitz will begin the season this Saturday as the Dodgers play the Angels in the final Freeway Series exhibition game at 6:10 p.m. before opening the National League season on Monday, April 6 against the San Diego Padres at 1:10 p.m.
