Dodgers News: Yency Almonte Heading Out on Minor League Rehab Assignment

Yency Almonte began a minore league rehab assignment on Saturday, tossing an inning for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers as the club played in the AAA championship game. It marked Almonte’s first game action in nearly two months.

The right-handed reliever opened the game for the OKC club allowing a walk and a base hit while striking out two in a scoreless inning of work.

Almonte suffered a right knee sprain and landed on the injured list on August 12th. Amidst Almonte’s down 2023 season where he has pitched to the tune of a 5.06 ERA in 48 innings, this rehab assignment will hopefully get him on track to contribute in the postseason.

Almonte joined the Dodgers in 2022 after signing as a free agent after having four poor years with the Colorado Rockies.

Almonte tossed 124 innings with the Rockies with a 5.30 ERA in four years with the club.

In 2022, Almonte tossed 35.1 innings with a 1.02 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP.

Teams across the league may have studied more on Almonte and his pitching style as his ERA ballooned this year going up more than 4 whole runs and his WHIP almost doubling.

In the outing, Almonte started off shaky but found himself at the end of the innings tallying a pair of strikeouts.

Almonte will hopefully turn this good outing and possibly another soon and carry a confident pitch mix and mindset into the NLDS against whoever the Dodgers face.

Bullpen has been a big struggle at times during the season, but when Almonte is back and pitching like his 2022 self, he is virtually un-hittable.
