Dodgers Officially Activate Bobby Miller to Start Wednesday’s Game; Walker Buehler Goes on IL

Bobby Miller is back.

On Wednesday, the Dodgers activated the right-handed pitcher off the injured list to start Wednesday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies. Walker Buehler has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right hip inflammation.

Miller, 25, hasn’t pitched since April 10 due to shoulder inflammation. The young flamethrower made just three starts this season — and never looked like himself — allowing seven earned runs in 11.2 innings for a 5.40 ERA.

Miller took over two months to heal, and will now finally be back on the mound for L.A. The Dodgers recently lost Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the injured list with a strained rotator cuff, and on Tuesday night, it was revealed that Walker Buehler could head back to the IL as his struggles continue.

Thus, Miller’s return becomes especially important for a Dodgers team looking to continue to win without their superstar leadoff hitter, Mookie Betts.

Miller made four rehab starts, allowing 13 earned runs in 15 innings for a 7.80 ERA. However, the Dodgers know he’s ready to return, and are banking on him raising his level against big league competition.

As for Buehler, he alluded to the possibility of going on the injured list after another poor outing Tuesday. In his eighth start of the season since returning from an almost two-year-long rehab process from elbow surgery, Buehler allowed seven runs in four innings against the Rockies.

Roberts told reporters, including MLB.com’s Juan Toribio, that the Dodgers will insert a starter into their rotation Friday against the Angels. Landon Knack, 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA in four spot starts this season, is the most likely candidate for that assignment.

First pitch for Wednesday night’s game is 5:40 p.m. PT. The Dodgers will be looking to win the series with one more game still to go on Thursday.

  1. Miller is overrated and Buehler will never be the same. Knack should be on the roster for the long haul. Of course, Roberts cares more about player’s feelings than he does about winning. Some things never change.

    1. Agreed. Buehler is a mess. He is a free agent after this season. I don’t see him resigning with LA next year. Every game he pitches, he gives up a ton of runs early. Giving up 7 runs a game, to the last place Rockies in back to back games, is not good.
