Dodgers Pitching Prospect Earns Prestigious Honor

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Lucas Wepf has been named a High-A All-Star following the conclusion of the 2024 minor league baseball season. Wepf was named to the Midwest All-Star Team thanks to his pitching efforts for the Great Lakes Loons this season. He was the only Great Lakes player to be named to an All-Star team.

Wepf pitched in both High-A and Double-A for the Dodgers’ minor league system this season. He pitched 22 games in High-A, but made no starts. He went 1-2 for Great Lakes with a 1.84 ERA and 44 strikeouts over 29.1 total innings pitched. He gave up just six earned runs and walked 10.

Wepf was promoted to Double-A Tulsa on June 20, but did not see as much success in Double-A. For the Drillers, Wepf appeared in 21 games with no starts. He went 4-4 with a 5.67 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 27 total innings. He did not end the season on a good note either, allowing eight runs (six earned) in his final four appearances for Double-A Tulsa.

The 24-year-old is in his second season with the Dodgers’ organization. He joined the Dodgers in 2023, playing for both Single-A and High-A. In 22 games of Single-A a season ago, Wepf went 1-2 with a 2.43 ERA and 58 strikeouts. In 19 games of High-A after his promotion in 2023, Wepf struggled with a 4.68 ERA and 30 strikeouts.

Wepf has clearly made significant strides to become a High-A All-Star just a year after he struggled at that level the season before.

Prior to joining the Dodgers, Wepf began playing baseball for Pratt Community College before transferring to Louisiana-Monroe. He pitched for the school for three seasons, posting his best season in 2021 when he recorded a 2.36 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 34.1 innings. He regressed in his senior season with a 6.00 ERA, causing him to go drafted in the 2022 MLB Draft. He went on to sign with the Dodgers after college.
