Dodgers Predicted to Shock MLB World, Sign Former Astros Star in Free Agency
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had an otherworldly offseason.
Coming off of the franchise’s eighth World Series title, they have hit the ground running mere weeks after hoisting the trophy for L.A.
Starting with the blockbuster signing of Cy Young award-winning pitcher Blake Snell, bringing back reliever Blake Treinen, finalizing a deal with closer Tanner Scott, signing reliever Kirby Yates, and winning the unprecedented free agency process of phenom Roki Sasaki, Los Angeles has not stopped improving upon its championship-proven roster; and those are only their pitching additions.
On offense, the Dodgers brought back Teoscar Hernández and Tommy Edman, signed Michael Conforto, KBO standout Hyeseong Kim, and acquired outfielder Mike Sirota, among other transactions.
Remember, this is the team that just won the World Series.
David Schoenfield of ESPN doesn’t think the Dodgers are quite done yet and has one more polarizing move up their sleeves.
That move would bring a juggernaut onto an already lethal offense, but at the expense of this player being a part of the hated 2017 Houston Astros squad.
That player is Alex Bregman.
The 31-year-old has spent nine seasons with the Astros and won two championships during his time there. Coming off his first-career Gold Glove award nod in 2024, Schoenfield predicts why this is more than just a far-fetched free agency idea.
“If Bregman can’t find the big deal he wants, the Dodgers might be a surprise fit. Max Muncy is a free agent after 2025 and prone to strikeouts. Hyeseong Kim’s bat projects as more of a utility infielder than a starting second baseman.”
The deal makes sense if the Dodgers don’t plan on bringing Muncy back after this season and if Kim doesn’t make enough of an impact offensively. In KBO play the last eight years, Kim slashed .304/.364/.403 with an OPS of .766.
In 2024, Kim set career-highs in home runs with 11 and RBIs with 75.
Muncy on the other hand had an injury-riddled 2024 slashing .232/.358/.494 and an OPS of .852. He finished the regular season with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs.
In the 2024 postseason, Muncy hit three home runs, five runs batted in, and eight hits on the way to L.A.’s World Series championship.

Would definitely be an upgrade at 3B but would he be accepted by the fans?/ locker room ? I guess if he continues his allstar caliber play all could be forgiven?!?
New Orleans Dodger
I don’t think the fans would ever accept him. I know I wouldn’t. I really don’t see any other fans accepting him either.
Tennessee Dodger Fan
What a load of Hooey!! Slow baseball news day.
I agree. Won’t happen.
.I think we are set.
This has to be the most dumbest pile of crap put together. Makes absolutely no sense financially nor chemistry wise.
No to any of the 2017 Astros. The players would no\t like it and the fans would not like it.
There is only one significant player left for them to get, Luis Robert, Jr. I guess they have a deal with Kike who is willing to wait until Feb,10.
LMAO…that would be a colossal PR risk. Bregman may not be the jerk and loudmouth that Correa is but he is hated and would be a slap in the face to by Dodger fans.
Agreed. Absolutely not. And this team has proven too smart to do something like that.
Mookie in center. Kim and Edmon infield where they know how to play well. Bregman at third. Then all the Gold Gloves are in place. Don’t get all fancy pants with positions. Lose Muncy, CT3, Brasier. Get Kike back. Worry about Kershaw and consider Scherzer instead of Miller, Gonsolin or May. Lastly, don’t hate me.
I agree with your general thought process, and I like some of the moves. But I don’t think Mookie would be a great fit in centerfield. I also tend to think Muncy is going to be fine again and return to form.
Unfortunately they won’t be able to trade Taylor so it is either keep him around or release him. Hopefully he can return to some semblance of his earlier form but I tend to think not.
I don’t see any reason they won’t bring Kike back, and I also assume Kershaw will come back. (I also easily can see him returning to ace/ near ace form if he is able to get healthy. I thought the same thing about Scherzer. If he is willing to sign for something similar to what Verlander signed for on a one year deal then I would say go for it. I don’t think that they can count on Gosolin or May really, and the focus will be on keeping the pitchers ready for October.
We don’t want or need any Astro player – I have been a dedicated Dodger fan all my life & am now 85 years old, please show respect to your fans.
The Dodgers are the best team money can buy. They discuss me
Hmmm.. John, I wonder how they could discuss you, they hardly know you.. And given your obviously jealousy, why would they care? I think a Dodger discussion about John is definitely off the table.. Padres might be interested, they seem to have lost focus, maybe a discussion about John will help them regain their lost Luster??

If there is a god, then NO!
#1. The Dodgers are NOT going to sign Bregman. It would alienate fans. 2017 is in my remembrance as well.
#2. We do not need a third baseman. We have Max Muncy. He is a good fielder, not Gold Glove, but good. He also takes a LOT of pitches, walks a LOT. And he hits homers.
#3. Max is 14.5 mil this year and potentially 10 mil next? Bregman will start at 20 or 25 per–plus 3 more years
#4. Max has a WAR 2021-2024 of 13.3; Bregman has a WAR of 15.7—in 400 more atbats—it is a tossup.
What’s happened with Kirby Yates???
Still do not understand why they did not go after Adames, then you leave Mookie at 2nd or RF, with Edman or Rojas or Kim at 2nd if MB stays in RF. Why are they not resigning Kike already.
