Dodgers Predicted to Shock MLB World, Sign Former Astros Star in Free Agency
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had an otherworldly offseason.
Coming off of the franchise’s eighth World Series title, they have hit the ground running mere weeks after hoisting the trophy for L.A.
Starting with the blockbuster signing of Cy Young award-winning pitcher Blake Snell, bringing back reliever Blake Treinen, finalizing a deal with closer Tanner Scott, signing reliever Kirby Yates, and winning the unprecedented free agency process of phenom Roki Sasaki, Los Angeles has not stopped improving upon its championship-proven roster; and those are only their pitching additions.
On offense, the Dodgers brought back Teoscar Hernández and Tommy Edman, signed Michael Conforto, KBO standout Hyeseong Kim, and acquired outfielder Mike Sirota, among other transactions.
Remember, this is the team that just won the World Series.
David Schoenfield of ESPN doesn’t think the Dodgers are quite done yet and has one more polarizing move up their sleeves.
That move would bring a juggernaut onto an already lethal offense, but at the expense of this player being a part of the hated 2017 Houston Astros squad.
That player is Alex Bregman.
The 31-year-old has spent nine seasons with the Astros and won two championships during his time there. Coming off his first-career Gold Glove award nod in 2024, Schoenfield predicts why this is more than just a far-fetched free agency idea.
“If Bregman can’t find the big deal he wants, the Dodgers might be a surprise fit. Max Muncy is a free agent after 2025 and prone to strikeouts. Hyeseong Kim’s bat projects as more of a utility infielder than a starting second baseman.”
The deal makes sense if the Dodgers don’t plan on bringing Muncy back after this season and if Kim doesn’t make enough of an impact offensively. In KBO play the last eight years, Kim slashed .304/.364/.403 with an OPS of .766.
In 2024, Kim set career-highs in home runs with 11 and RBIs with 75.
Muncy on the other hand had an injury-riddled 2024 slashing .232/.358/.494 and an OPS of .852. He finished the regular season with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs.
In the 2024 postseason, Muncy hit three home runs, five runs batted in, and eight hits on the way to L.A.’s World Series championship.

Would definitely be an upgrade at 3B but would he be accepted by the fans?/ locker room ? I guess if he continues his allstar caliber play all could be forgiven?!?
New Orleans Dodger
What a load of Hooey!! Slow baseball news day.
I agree. Won’t happen.
.I think we are set.
This has to be the most dumbest pile of crap put together. Makes absolutely no sense financially nor chemistry wise.
No to any of the 2017 Astros. The players would no\t like it and the fans would not like it.
There is only one significant player left for them to get, Luis Robert, Jr. I guess they have a deal with Kike who is willing to wait until Feb,10.
LMAO…that would be a colossal PR risk. Bregman may not be the jerk and loudmouth that Correa is but he is hated and would be a slap in the face to by Dodger fans.
Mookie in center. Kim and Edmon infield where they know how to play well. Bregman at third. Then all the Gold Gloves are in place. Don’t get all fancy pants with positions. Lose Muncy, CT3, Brasier. Get Kike back. Worry about Kershaw and consider Scherzer instead of Miller, Gonsolin or May. Lastly, don’t hate me.
