Dodgers Prospect Named California League Player of the Week

Dodgers minor league prospect and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes middle infielder Jeral Perez was named the California League Player of the Week on Monday.

Perez was named the weekly award winner after going 9 for 25 with three home runs, two doubles, five walks, and six RBIs in six games. His week was highlighted by a multi-homer game on Saturday against Inland Empire.

He is the second consecutive Quake to win the award.

According to Baseball America, Perez is considered Roboscout’s No. 1 prospect in Low-A. He was considered a watchlist name last season but has not cracked BA’s Top 30 Prospects for the Dodgers organization.

He has improved in his swing decisions, contact rate, exit velocities, and feel for the barrel, which has him trending up in the right direction.

Perez is 15-for-48 through 13 games this season with four doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs, nine runs scored, 11 walks, and 10 strikeouts.

The Quakes (9-4) will take Monday off before returning to action against the Lake Elsinore Storm at LoanMart Field on Tuesday night.
