Dodgers Rumors: Another Free Agent Starting Pitcher Off the Board as Luis Severino Joins Mets
The stove is officially heating up in the MLB, as free agent starting pitcher Luis Severino is nearing a deal with the New York Mets. MLB insider Mark Feinsand reported the news.
Severino was one of the low-to-mid-tiered starting pitchers available this offseason, but someone we linked to the Dodgers a few weeks ago as a potential under-the-radar signing.
Severino had a major down year with the New York Yankees in 2023, sporting a 6.65 ERA in 89.1 innings pitched.
However, he’s had multiple years with a sub-3 ERA, and was very solid in 102 innings in 2022 with a 3.18 ERA.
Severino reportedly is getting $13 million for one season, per Jeff Passan of ESPN, showing how crazy this starting pitching market is going to be.
If Severino is going for $13 million and Lance Lynn went for $11 million, it’s going to be very interesting to see what some of the top-tier starting pitchers end up getting.
Severino likely wasn’t someone the Dodgers were seriously targeting, but another starting pitcher is officially off the board as we get hopefully closer and closer to the decisions from Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The Dodgers desperately need starting pitching, and another potential option is off the board.
