Dodgers Rumors: Jordan Montgomery, Jordan Hicks Off the Board as Cardinals Begin Fire Sale
The Cardinals continue to diss the Dodgers ahead of the deadline and opt to send two of their top trade chips to anywhere but LA. Jokes aside, one of the top available relievers on the market is on the market no more. The Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals have come together on a deal to send closer Jordan Hicks to Toronto in exchange for prospects.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan was among those to confirm the deal.
Additionally, the Red Birds sent starting pitcher Jordan Mongomery to the Rangers who also added Max Scherzer in a deal on Saturday. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that deal.
The Dodgers had been linked to Montgomery in recent days but were never heavily linked to Hicks. Certainly, both were discussed internally as LA reportedly explored a deal to acquire Nolan Arenado. However, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak told reporters on Saturday that his club would be holding on to Arenado and looking to build for the future.
That build starts with the trade of Hicks and Montgomery and could see also see starting pitcher Jack Flaherty on the move before the Aug 1. trade deadline.
