Dodgers Rumors: LA May Not Be Done Adding Starting Pitching Ahead of the Deadline

On Friday, the Dodgers added one of the bigger names available on the trade market ahead of the deadline, two time All-Star Lance Lynn. While Lynn has had a rough go of it this season compared to seasons past, the front office has expressed confidence in a rebound in LA.

The front office has also signaled that they’re probably not done adding before Tuesday afternoon.

Jorge Castillo and Jack Harris of the LA Times sorted through some of the names the Dodgers are still rumored to be engaged on including Justin Verlander of the Mets who, by Harris and Castillo’s estimation, may be a bit beyond the price range LA may be willing to go prospect wise.

The Dodgers might have a chance to acquire him now — though it would likely require a hefty package rich on young talent, particularly with other contenders such as the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers reportedly also showing interest in Verlander.

So, if Verlander is potentially out of the comfort zone for the Dodgers, what about his rotation mate Max Scherzer? Harris and Castillo label the former Dodger as a long shot.

Adding to the intrigue with Scherzer, the veteran voiced his frustration with the Mets beginning their sell off early with the trade of closer David Robertson on Thursday night.

Beyond Verlander and Scherzer, the Times mentions St. Louis starters Jack Flaherty and Jordan Mongomery, Mitch Keller of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Detroit Tigers hurler Eduardo Rodriguez among “known trade targets” for Los Angeles.

With the Chicago Cubs potentially shifting from sellers to buyers at the trade deadline, the options are getting even thinner on the market. The Dodgers front office may continue its search for a starter, but don’t be shocked if Lance Lynn is the best the club comes away with before 3 PM PT on Tuesday.

Unless something comes together quickly for a Max Scherzer reunion…

  1. All the resources this organization has, and the best they can do is Lance Lynn. So sick of this crap team.
