Dodgers Rumors: LA Increases Trade Offer as Juan Soto Sweepstakes Intensify

There are few dates on the MLB calendar more invigorating than the Trade Deadline. Deals can be struck in a matter of hours, and the playoff implications make for some incredible drama. A few major deals have already been struck, including some targets that the Dodgers were after themselves, but the big fish is still out there for the taking.

Juan Soto is still a Washington National as of the writing of this article, but he may have already played his last game for the only team he’s ever known. With less than 24 hours before the deadline, the race for Soto has picked up speed. The first sign that the Dodgers were getting serious today came from none other than Bob Nightengale.

The Padres and Cardinals have been seen as the favorites in the Soto sweepstakes all along, but that’s no reason to count out Los Angeles. The same could be said about the sweepstakes for Max Scherzer, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and just about every other star they eventually acquired.

Andrew Friedman rarely shows his best cards until the final moments, and this seems to be the case once again. With the Nationals having narrowed the field down to three teams, it appears that the Dodgers are serious about trying to add Soto to their already powerful lineup.

For the Dodgers, the question is how many players they are willing to part with for one of the best young hitters in the game. They don’t need him to win the National League West, but they could certainly use him for October with other contenders making moves to improve.

A lot can change overnight, but it appears that the Soto sweepstakes are nearing an explosive conclusion. Make sure those Twitter notifications are turned on, Dodgers fans.
