Dodgers Rumors: ‘Widespread Industry Belief’ Roki Sasaki Has Already Picked a Team

From the start of Roki Sasaki’s journey to stateside baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers were the one team that had always been linked to the Japanese phenom. The latest report indicates Sasaki has selected a team.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the team that Sasaki has chosen is the Dodgers.

“But there is widespread industry belief – correct or not – that Sasaki has probably already picked a team, and it’s most likely the Dodgers,” Olney said.

The winter inevitably is a time of misinformation, since the fate of free agents unfolds in the offseason. However, the Dodgers and Sasaki have been repeatedly mentioned in recent weeks.

Olney’s insight would certainly coincide with what other baseball experts have said: the Dodgers are the favorite to sign the 23-year-old pitcher. There is no doubt the Dodgers have the most to offer Sasaki.

As reigning World Series champions, the Dodgers offer Sasaki an opportunity to be a contender in his first season in the majors. The Dodgers also have a reputation for player development, something a young pitcher needs.

Furthermore, the Dodgers give Sasaki endorsement opportunities. Sasaki would also get the chance to learn from a handful of aces in the starting rotation from Shohei Ohtani to Blake Snell. Finally, the Dodgers can offer Sasaki a comfortable lifestyle in a city where the weather is always nice and the stars are always out.

Everything Sasaki is prioritizing in selecting a team, the Dodgers can offer. The Dodgers learned in 2024 that a team can never have enough starting pitchers. Although the Dodgers have some big names in the rotation, Sasaki could certainly fill a slot.

Sasaki is the best bargain in baseball. He’s poised to be a star but will come at a relatively modest rate as an international amateur free agent. After spending over $180 million on Snell, the Dodgers signing Sasaki would be huge.

As the Dodgers prepare to build another World Series roster, the team’s starting pitching could be the most lethal in 2025.

Juan Soto is projected to reveal his landing spot in the coming days, but baseball fans will hope to see Sasaki’s story unfold within the next month. If industry sources are correct, Sasaki could very well be wearing a Dodgers uniform by spring training.
