Dodgers’ Super Rotation, Reacting to 2021 MLB Protocols, New Balls, Who Dis? | Blue Heaven Podcast
The Dodgers added the top free agent starter on the market to the team last week, building on the excess of excess starting pitching at their disposal. With Trevor Bauer in tow, Dave Roberts has a lot of good to have problems to sort through before opening day. Including in the bullpen.
So if the pitching staff is overloaded, should the club look to trade from an area of depth? There’s a desire to trim payroll and there’s currently a need at third base, if Justin Turner doesn’t come back. We dive into some trade candidates like David Price and even Kenley Jansen and wonder what, if anything, they could get in return for the high-priced veterans.
And finally, MLB and the players union reportedly at long last agreed to something for the first time all offseason. The two sides came together on health and safety protocols for the 2021 season but still remain apart on expanded playoffs and the universal designated hitter. Plus, the league is planning on “deadening” baseballs next season. So much for the long ball?

First I’ve heard of “deadening” the live ball. I’m all for it. Let’s play real baseball instead of home run derby. Betts will be happy to get on base and score runs whether they’re golf balls or marshmallows. He can go big or small.
I’m guessing AF knew about this before getting Bauer and went for pitching instead of power hitting. Although LeMahieiu’s relative value goes up too with a ball that doesn’t automatically fly over the fence. Too bad we couldn’t get him as pure RHB contact hitter. In any case the Dodger team ERA should be below 3.00 this year.
