Dodgers Trade Bryan Hudson To Brewers For Minor League Pitcher

The Dodgers traded pitcher Bryan Hudson to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league left-hander Justin Chambers, the teams announced Wednesday.

Hudson, a 26-year-old left-hander, had been designated for assignment to make room for Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the 40-man roster. The Dodgers had until today to find a trade partner for Hudson, place him on waivers, or outright him to the minors.

The Brewers were ostensibly intrigued enough by Hudson to take a flier. In return, the Dodgers received Chambers, a 20th-round pick in last year’s draft, as well as a player to be named later or cash.

Chambers reportedly signed with the Brewers for $547,500. He has yet to make his professional debut while he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Prior to the draft, Perfect Game rated him the top left-handed high school pitcher in Arizona.

A former third-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2015, Hudson made his major league debut last season with the Dodgers, who signed him as a minor league free agent in Dec. 2022.

In six relief appearances with the Dodgers, Hudson allowed 12 hits and seven runs across 8.2 innings. He walked four batters and struck out seven. Listed at 6-foot-8, the 26-year-old towered over opponents at Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA in 46 games (eight starts) in 2023.

The trade caps the end of an eventful week for Hudson, who got engaged last Thursday.
