Freddie Freeman NLDS Game 1 Status Officially Revealed for Dodgers

Freddie Freeman is officially in the lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres.

Freeman, who suffered an ankle injury in last Thursday’s game against the Padres, will not miss the first game of a best-of-five postseason series against San Diego on Saturday.

Freeman said earlier this week that his injury would have normally required a 4-6 week stint on the injured list. 10 days after sustaining the injury, he will be able to go for the massive Game 1.

“They told me this is a 4-6 week IL stint,” Freeman said. “And I’m going to try to do this in a week and play.”

Freeman said he’s never sprained an ankle before, but he still feels confident he’ll be able to play without hurting the team. At the end of the day, though, he’s just focused on winning.

“It doesn’t matter. Tomorrow, who cares? No one is going to worry about me hindering or anything like that tomorrow,” Freeman said. “We just got to win ball games, and that’s my focus.”

Freeman didn’t travel with the team to Colorado for their final series of the regular season. He spent the extra rest this week getting a ton of treatment on the ankle.

“The swelling has come down a lot. So I feel good — good enough,” Freeman said. “I’m sure you’ll be watching me, the slowing down part of running, that’s going to hinder … But overall, today I felt much better than I have in the last couple of days.”

Los Angeles will need to rely on others to step up if Freeman is limited at all during Game 1.
