Micheal Grove’s Role With Dodgers to Start Season Revealed

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Michael Grove will play a vital role for the Dodgers to start the 2024 season.

The 27-year-old started in Saturday’s exhibition matchup against the Kiwoom Heroes, his final tune up before the regular season.

With the Dodgers opening their season on March 20 and 21, Grove will start his season out of the bullpen for Los Angeles, with Gavin Stone filling the No. 5 spot in the rotation.

“I mean, Michael, to be able to go one inning, two innings, three innings, to be sort of a bridge guy right now makes a lot of sense given the construction of our pitching. He is certainly a viable option for the ’pen for us to start the season.”

Stone beat out Grove for the fifth spot, but Grove figures to be in the mix, perhaps in a bulk relief role.

Although the Dodgers have stars at the top of their rotation like Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, durability is a big question mark for both.

While the Dodgers may not exactly utilize a six-man rotation, someone like Grove gives them flexibility when trying to give their starters some extra rest.

Grove had a 6.75 ERA in eight innings this spring, but did have 11 strikeouts.
