Los Angeles Dodgers superstar shortstop Mookie Betts is set to return to the field Tuesday for the first time since March 9 as the team concludes spring training.

While quickly speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s game and after completing his pregame workout, Betts had a simple six-word update:

“I feel great, guys. Awesome. Normal.”

Betts is in the lineup for Tuesday’s Freeway Series finale against the Los Angeles Angels after missing the last two weeks while battling an illness.

Betts lost nearly 20 pounds due to the illness, and wasn’t able to hold down solid foods.

“My body’s just kind of eating itself,” Betts said earlier this week. “It’s hard to not fuel it. And so every time — literally, every time — I fuel my body, I throw up.”

He added: “I don’t know what to do.”

Betts’ illness came about toward the end of Cactus League play. He missed the final two Cactus League games, all four games in Japan (two exhibition games and two regular season games against the Chicago Cubs), and the last two games of the Freeway Series on Sunday and Monday.

Tuesday was Betts’ last opportunity to play before Thursday’s home opener, and it appears he’s set to do just that as the team gets set to re-open their regular season in two days.
