Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts has quietly been one of the team’s best performers—if not the best—for the past couple of weeks, which is a great sign as the Dodgers head towards the postseason.
Betts, similar to the 2025 season, struggled during the first half of the season, entering the All-Star break with a .709 OPS for a 94 wRC+ on the year. Since then, though, he has noticeably kicked into gear, and is one of the driving factors in the Dodgers’ offense heading into mid-September.
How Has Mookie Betts Performed Recently?
Since the All-Star break, Betts has a .751 OPS with every number in his slash line trending upwards.
Over the past couple of weeks, he has been even better. Since Aug. 19, Betts has reached base in every game during which he’s registered a plate appearance, and has a team-leading 162 wRC+ during that stretch.
He has the most home runs on the team in that timeframe as well with two, and his 12 RBIs are at least three more than any other Dodger. The shortstop had a strong end to August, and carried his momentum into September for a torrid start to the month.
Through five games so far, Betts has eight hits in 20 at-bats with seven RBIs and a .500 on-base percentage, scoring a run in each of the Dodgers’ games this month. He has four multi-hit efforts since the beginning of LA’s series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
Has Mookie Betts Done This Before?
Betts had a similar resurgence to this in the 2025 season, during which he struggled through the first few months of the season due to a mysterious illness.
He had a .696 OPS before the All-Star break in 2025, but managed a .784 OPS through his final 61 games of the season to bring his season totals above league average.
The shortstop’s improvement comes just in time for the Dodgers, who need to find their stride before the postseason arrives. They currently sit in the third seed in the National League, which means they could very well find themselves in the Wild Card round for the second consecutive season.
If Betts keeps his momentum into the postseason, though, that won’t pose much of an issue to the reigning World Series Champions.
