Shohei Ohtani/Decoy Bobblehead Giveaway Is Going For the Gold

If you plan on going to the Dodgers’ game on Wednesday, you might be a part of a record-breaking crowd.

Wednesday’s game against the Orioles will be Shohei Ohtani’s second bobblehead night with the Dodgers. The four-time MLB All-Star will share the spotlight with his dog, Decoy, on the bobblehead.

His first bobblehead night attracted the largest regular season crowd at Dodger Stadium in five years. Fans lined up hours before the first pitch to ensure they would be able to get their hands on one of the 40,000 Ohtani bobbleheads.

What most fans did not know that night was that 1,700 bobbleheads featuring Ohtani in the Dodgers gray uniform were up for grabs. The Dodgers only announced the existence of the rare bobbleheads the morning of the game.

It’s hard to imagine the chaos that would have ensued if fans knew about these rare bobbleheads farther in advance.

Well, there is no need to imagine anymore. The Dodgers announced via Twitter/X on Thursday that Ohtani’s second bobblehead night would include a gold version of the figurine:

Given the extra time to prepare, it will definitely be a battle to acquire one of the gold bobbleheads.

The Dodgers did not disclose how many gold bobbleheads will be available for fans or the distribution process. Last time, the rare gray-uniform bobbleheads were randomly mixed in, which will likely be the same method of distribution for the gold bobbleheads.

Considering the lucrative price tags the gray-uniform bobbleheads were resold for, it will be interesting to see how high the gold bobbleheads will go for.

The Ohtani bobblehead night is just one of many promotions the Dodgers are doing over the next month. Over the weekend, the Dodgers are honoring the Los Angeles Lakers, offering a Lakers Showtime T-Shirt and a Kobe Bryant Dodgers jersey. Additionally, the Dodgers are giving away an Ohtani shirt on Sept. 21. Evan Phillips, Max Muncy, and Clayton Kershaw also have upcoming bobblehead nights.

  1. Hey Sam Garcia, journalist, please explain why the Dodgers do not make 50,000 bobblehead available every time there is a promotion, especially for Ohtani bobbleheads? That way people won’t come to the game hoping to get a bobblehead and then be disappointed. Is it the small difference in the cost of the give-away? If so, that is petty. I can’t believe the Dodgers would let little kids who come to the game with their parents, hoping to get an Ohtani and Decoy bobblehead, not get one, because the drive to the stadium and parking took 110 minutes and not 100 minutes as expected.
