Preview: Dodgers Eye Series Split With Mike Bolsinger On The Mound
The Los Angeles Dodgers enter Sunday looking for a series split against the Colorado Rockies after failing to score any runs and managing just two hits on Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa; the loss ended Zack Grienke’s 10-game winning streak. Mike Bolsinger takes the mound for the Dodgers Sunday as the team now tries to bounce back.
Bolsinger has seemingly earned his way into the rotation after two impressive starts. Five days prior to Sunday’s game, Bolsinger faced the Miami Marlins while only giving up one run and five hits over 5.2 innings. The run he allowed happened to be the Giancarlo Stanton shot that left Dodger Stadium. Bolsinger showed poise afterwards and kept the Marlins off the board.
Opposing Bolsinger is Kyle Kendrick, who is facing the Dodgers for the second time this season. The Dodgers roughed him up in his April 17 start to the tune of six runs on seven hits. Three of the runs came in the first inning with Adrian Gonzalez and Howie Kendrick leading the way that evening.
Gonzalez is a lifetime .467 hitter against Kenrick but has yet to homer off the longtime Philadelphia Phillie. Gonzalez’s success against Kendrick can be traced to extra-base hits as he has four doubles in 15 career at-bats against the right-hander. Gonzalez returns to the lineup Sunday after getting the previous night off.
Also making their returns to the lineup are Andre Ethier and Joc Pederson as Dodgers manager Don Mattingly reverts back to his usual balanced look. In what’s become a norm this season, Justin Turner starts at third base and Alex Guerrero, the other piece to the third-base puzzle, gets another start in left field.
