Spring Training Preview: Brett Anderson Makes Debut Vs. Giants

Fresh off an exciting finish to Sunday’s game over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Los Angeles Dodgers now take on the San Francisco Giants for the first time this spring at Scottsdale Stadium.
The Dodgers enter the game 4-1-1, while the Giants are 2-5 and coming off three-consecutive losses, including getting swept in split-squad games on Sunday.
One day after getting a first look at offseason signee Brandon McCarthy, another new face in Brett Anderson makes his Dodgers debut today. The southpaw is coming off an impressive, but injury-shortened season with the Colorado Rockies.
Over the duration of his career, Anderson has somewhat struggled against San Francisco, posting a 5.25 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 12.0 innings pitched (three starts). He is expected to pitch only two innings, just like every Dodgers starter has to this point.
Succeeding Anderson will be Erik Bedard, Brandon League, Carlos Frias, Chris Hatcher, and Yimi Garcia. Anderson’s counterpart will be former Giants’ ace, Matt Cain, whom the Dodgers are certainly familiar with.
In his career, Cain is 5-11 with a 3.49 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 183.1 innings pitched against Los Angeles. With the exception of the designated hitter and absence of Clayton Kershaw, Monday’s lineup could very well be a preview to the one seen on Opening Day.
